I managed to install a sys install [https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi#Traditional_disk-based_.28sys.29_installation ] of Alpine to a Raspberry Pi 3B (though it breaks if I move it to the edge packages), and installed Java on it, for running a small Minecraft server. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to run on non-Oracle Java (it complains about missing some security package/component). Is there a straightforward way of installing Oracle Java?

I don't think there will ever be a package for Oracle Java. You best bet is probably downloading JRE from Oracle (I think it may be Java SE Embedded for Raspberry Pi) yourself. That shouldn't be a big issue unless you want the updates.
